This course is designed for individuals who are required to operate or observe the operation of cranes, plant and hand held tools in the vicinity of live overhead power lines and associated electrical apparatus in accordance with the WorkCover Code of Practice “Work Near Overhead Power Lines”
 
This course covers the following elements;
1. Preparing to work safely in the vicinity of live electrical apparatus
2. Working safely in the vicinity of live electrical apparatus
3. Completing work and documentation

This course is designed for individuals who are required to operate or observe the operation of cranes, plant and hand held tools in the vicinity of live overhead power lines and associated electrical apparatus in accordance with the WorkCover Code of Practice “Work Near Overhead Power Lines”. This includes those who may be required to work safely up to the defined safe approach distance near energised electrical apparatus (including electrical power lines) as non electrical workers.

Learning Outcomes

Identify statutory acts and regulations and hazards associated with working or operating vehicles/plant, equipment and hand held tools near overhead power lines.

Identify various hardware and voltages in the ESI environment.

Identify relevant clearances for various voltages found in the ESI environment.

Identify correct selection and understanding of clearance tables relevant to the task being performed.

Identify correct emergency procedures associated with working or operating vehicles/plant, equipment and hand held tools near overhead power lines.

Knowledge of low voltage rescue, defibrillation and CPR.

Assessment

Assessment is a combination of written questions/answers and practical demonstrations.

Statement of Attainment

Participants will be issued with a nationally accredited Statement of Attainment for UETDREL006 – Working Safely in the Vicinity of Live Electrical Apparatus as a Non-Electrical Worker. Please note: if your course took place on Friday or over the weekend your Statement of Attainment will not be sent until the following Monday.

Entry Requirements

All participants must have a USI (Unique Student Identifier) number to enrol in this course. If you do not have a USI, please visit the USI Website and create one.

Language and Literacy Requirements

This course will be taught in English and will require a sound understanding of English literacy. If you believe you may encounter challenges with English literacy, please contact us on 02 9733 3600 and we will assess whether you have the capabilities required to undertake this course.

Age requirements

By law all participants must be over the age of 18 and able to provide valid photo ID, otherwise they cannot partake in this course. Please contact us for more information.

What you should wear

A High-Visibility Vest is required as students go out on field.

Please come dressed in appropriate clothing, this includes long pants and enclosed shoes.

What you should bring

Please bring your Government Issued Photo ID.

Be advised that lunch is not provided, please bring your own lunch or there is a small tuck shop a 5 minute walk from our venue.
